Paige Turns 11!

So my daughter celebrated her 11th birthday over the long weekend and well, there was no getting out of making a cake for her 😄
She requested sunshine, pineapples and flamingos!!! I wanted to do something with buttercream rather then ganache and fondant. Besides who doesn't love a good buttercream cake!! I also wanted to use cookies as the decorations rather then making fondant ones. I've seen a few cakers use cookies round the place, but one caker who I've admired for quite some time does it do well that I couldn't resist recreating one of her designs. So design credit for this cake goes to Spoon and Fork. I do love the end result of this cake and it tasted delish!! Happy birthday Paigey xx

Clowning Around!

Oh did I have fun with this little cake! I love a new cake design hehehe. It gets my creative juices (so to speak) flowing again lol! I made this cake for Briana's little sister Tegan who celebrated her 21st. It would seem that Tegan has a love affair with clowns, hence the clown cake!! Me personally I find them creepy, but I have to admit this little guy is a bit cute. Happy birthday Tegan hope you enjoyed your cake ;-)

Now it's been a while since I've had to make cupcakes! I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing??!! But since doing this last week, the requests for cupcakes have been coming through thick and fast hehehehe. Now here are some bright, fun & not to mention cute (even if I say so) cupcakes that I made last week for little Scarlett who had her first birthday celebration. Happy birthday!

Lollipop Cake

Lollipop Lollipop Oh Lolli Lolli Lolli.......Just can't get this song out of my head ;-) I made this cake for little Maya who celebrated her 4th birthday. Such a beautiful day as well. I love the happiness and funness (I know it's not a word, but it is for me hehehe) of this cake, makes me smile! I have been dying to make a lollipop cake for ever, so thank you Michelle for letting me create yet another cake for your cute little family ;-)
P.S If you don't know this cake it is from Planet Cake's first book!

Bella Turns 2!

A cute little mini 2 tiered cake with matching cookies for Bella who celebrated her 2nd birthday over the weekend. Mum Cassandra wanted 5 little duckies to go with it as well. The cake was a 4" on top and a 6" on bottom. I had a bit of fun with this, never done a little mini 2 tiered! Hope you've all recovered after the dreadful bug! Happy birthday Bella.

My first competition.

Hi everyone!

Well it's been a little busy here at HC over the last few weeks and it's only going to get bigger with some amazing cakes that I'm yet to create! A few weeks ago I was told about a baking show that was happening here in Townsville by the National Baking Industry Australia. I was a little hesitant about entering, it's like anything, fear of the unknown. In the end I decided to enter a cake and being my first ever comp I wanted to sort of stick within my comfort zone a little, it wasn't like I was already stressing out, so I didn't want to add to it! I love my critters and feel I do them quite well, so I decided on an enchanted wood theme for my cake. The bottom tier is an 8" and the top is a double extended 6". Total height of the cake was 14 or so inches. If I was to do it again I'd make the top two tiers 5", only to get more definition between the tiers. The figurine is based on Dot's fairies, for those that know her work, you'll notice this (hopefully). She's fabulous. I then combined my Teddy Bear & Frogs Picnic cake to come up with this. See easy hehehehehe.

It was a great experience and I learnt a lot and met some wonderful people. And to top the whole experience off, I got first place!!! Yay, so excited. I've set the bar for myself now. I wonder what the next competition will bring......

First Birthday.

Hi Everyone,

I've neglected you all for a little bit. I am sorry :-( So much has been happening, sick me, sick children, sick husband, it seems to have been just one thing after another. I promise to though, not to be gone for so long again ;-)Here's a cake I made for Amanda's little daughter celebrating her 1st birthday. Amanda was specific about what she wanted and even sent through a picture of a cake that she wanted me to recreate. I find it so much harder to replicate cakes when a customer is specific about what they are after, as there's no room for changes or error. They know what they've ordered visually and it's what they expect. Pressure on!! In saying that it's never going to be the same, can never be. I do however think I did ok with this cake. Original design and credit goes to Pink Cake Box. I do love their work! Check it out, bottom row, 4th from the left. http://blog.pinkcakebox.com/category/pastry-images/children-cakes/page/3
Thanks for allowing me to create this cake for you Amanda, I loved it ;-) Hope you had a lovely day.

Zahra's Christening Cake.

Now here's a very pretty christening cake (well I think so!). I made this for Pamela who's christening her little one today. This was a very last minute order, luckily for Pamela someone had cancelled. See miracles can happen hehehehe. I really love the end look of this cake. I hope you have a lovely day with your family & friends Zahra.

Peace Out!

I made this cake for Belinda who celebrated her 30th last weekend. When Belinda contacted me she sent me a picture of what she was after which was very much a flower power cake! Belinda had also mentioned that she'd never had a custom made cake before, no pressure hehehe. I wasn't here when she picked up her cake, but Mr HC said that she actually jumped up and down and squealed when she saw it!! I'm a little bummed I wasn't there to see it ;-) Happy birthday Belinda. I hope you have a great party and enjoy that cake ;-)

If you go into the woods today......

Sitting on my workbench this week just waiting to be transformed was this ordinary boring green cake!Well here it is all finished and looking pretty. Not quite so boring now I think!! I made this cake for Violet who celebrated her 3rd birthday on the weekend with a teddy bears picnic themed party. Mum Megan has gone to so much effort to recreate this child like theme with so many different elements. I'm dying to see the photos. Megans favourite cake of mine is the Frogs Picnic, so I tried to recreate that feel as much as possible. Happy birthday Violet, hope you liked your cake ;-)

My favourite little customer.

For my favourite littlest customer Madi, this cake is just for you!! Mum Stacey always sends me a detailed e-mail explaining favourite things and likes. I think Stacey started the whole favourite things cakes and this one is no different. The main cake design is from a bag that Madi was getting for her birthday, her favourite colours are blue, pink, purple & red, she loves hearts, flowers, butterflies, fireworks (glitter hearts!!), loves puppies and has a thing for the Wonka golden ticket!! Oh and the owl, well that's just a ring in to please Mum who has an owl fetish hehehehe. Gotta give the mums something, we always miss out hehehe. Happy birthday Madi ;-)

Harry Potter

I was wondering how long it would be before I made some Harry Potter cakes!! Well finally I got my chance. Lynda contacted me to make some Harry Potter cakes for her daughters 16th birthday. This was the 3rd time Lynda had tried to book me, I couldn't say no again. When I delivered the cakes to Lynda's house I was amazed by the effort that was going into the party, all the decor from the dinner hall, entrance ways, and even a potions cabinet. Amazing. I hope you enjoyed your night and the cakes. P.S Would love to see some photos ;-)

A little funky.

I made this cake for Britney who celebrated her 13th birthday in style last night! Her favourite colours in order of preference are blue, purple and then pink! And she loves ballet & music. I made matching cuppies as well, but forget to take pictures :-( This is something a bit different, in that it's quite a busy little cake, but I think it came together nicely. Hope you had a lovely night Britney!
P.S Inspired by a caker, however I can't remember who.

We all know how I love new designs, well this one is no exception! I had so much fun making this for little Ava who celebrated her 3rd birthday today. Mum Adele, said that was all that Ava had wanted! So from the teaser photo to the whole cake here it is, Tinkerbell's house! Thank you so much Adele for letting me create this for you, despite our little caketastrophe ;-)

T&CO cupcakes...

It's always nice when customers come back, it validates in your mind that you must be doing something right hehehehe. So it was nice to receive an e-mail from Skye recently asking if I could make her some more cakes. The subject line in Skye's e-mail was "first the wedding, now the baby shower", very cute. Skye had a picture of some Tiffany & Co cuppies she wanted me to recreate, so here they are. I hope you enjoyed them Skye, thank you so much.

Ever so pretty....

So these to me are the epitome of gorgeousness!! Even if I say so myself ;-) I made these for Melissa who's daughters were having their photos taken on Friday. I think these acted as props for the photos? Melissa wanted something with flowers, girly, and pink. I think I covered it all!! Hope you liked the cakes Melissa. P.S Need to thank Eva for my inspiration on these!

Sally's Beach Cake

Sally celebrated her birthday in luau/beach style!! She wanted a cake to fit the theme. I proposed several different designs for her, and she decided on this one! I loved making the thongs! Such a fun cake.
